Incubator, Accelerator, and Coworking Spaces


  • The Innovation Incubator at the University of Northern Iowa allows new companies the ability to develop linkages and a synergistic relationship with the university. Our mission is to help start up firms in the Cedar Valley reduce their risks and accelerate their growth via technical assistance and the creation of a supportive entrepreneurial ecosystem.   • Iowa State University Research Park has provided space and business development services to start up and growth focused technology companies for 25 years.  The result is an entrepreneurial support infrastructure composed of numerous peer businesses, professional services and University resources.  Co-working facilities are provided at the Park’s incubator and consist of small private offices and Internet access.  The Park features technology and wet-lab incubators, testing labs and resource centers dedicated to business success and all available on an as-needed basis.  The Park’s relationship with Iowa State University, as well as with the federal labs in the area, allows entrepreneurs to gain access to a wealth of knowledge in a wide variety of fields.   • StartupCity Spencer is an incubator based in Spencer, Iowa.  The model closely follows that of StartupCity Des Moines. They provide mentoring, educational curriculum, services, and a workspace conductive to peer sharing for their resident businesses.  Key contact is Leann Jacobson.
  • University of Iowa Research Park, BioVentures Center and Technology Innovation Center: The UI Research Park leases building sites and space to growing companies and provides two business incubator programs—the BioVentures Center and the Technology Innovation Center—for start-ups and new ventures from established companies.  The BioVentures Center provides quality wet-lab and office space for life-science companies. Tenants can access an array of university amenities and services.  The Technology Innovation Center (TIC) provides office space to new technology-based ventures that do not require wet labs.   • The John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center's R. J. McElroy Student Business Incubator's mission is to help student entrepreneurs start and grow their ventures. Our center is one of five across Iowa, and we specialize in providing business consulting, workshops/trainings, and networking events. With a dedicated in-house accountant, UNI is a great choice for those students who might be thinking about launching their own company while earning their degree.   • The Square One DSM Accelerator is a full time accelerator for startup companies that are past the idea / incubation stage and are experiencing traction in the market.
