GovConnectIowa is the State of Iowa’s user-friendly and self-service portal to register or renew certain business licenses and permits, file tax returns and reports, make payments, and more. With the second rollout of the multi-year effort to simplify processes for taxpayers, the Iowa Department of Revenue and partnering agencies will present changes to GovConnectIowa.

This webinar series includes several topics that provide an overview of specific processes within GovConnectIowa. Attendees are welcome to attend the full webinar or use the schedule to join during the specific topics they are interested in. This series will run 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.

Drake University Law School, through its Entrepreneurial and Transactional Law Clinic (“ETC”), as part of a focused collaboration with UNI through AdvanceIowa and IA-CEO and supported by The Governor’s Empower Rural Iowa Initiative (“ERI”), is committed to raising awareness and sharing standardized knowledge for the formation of Iowa employee-owned cooperatives as an alternative entity for retiring Iowa business owners and innovative Iowa employee groups. Nick Roby, Clinical Professor of Law and Director of the Drake University Law School ETC, along with Debra Rectenbaugh Pettit, Program Attorney for the ERI at the ETC, both experienced Iowa business law attorneys, have worked to discern types of businesses suitable for transition to employee-owned cooperatives, to identify quality resources in support of employee-owned cooperatives, to develop form organizational and operational documents adaptable to a variety of employee-owned cooperatives, and to clarify the tax requirements and benefits relating to ownership sale to, and ownership of, employee-owned cooperatives. This webinar will summarize these employee-owned cooperative strategies and insights to assist Iowa accountants in advising about employee-owned cooperatives as an alternative solution to their clients’ business succession challenges.
