SBA Initiatives to Inspire New Entrepreneurs
Tameka Montgomery, associate administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, recently emailed us about a screening she attended of My Brother’s Keeper (MBK), called Rise: The Promise of My Brother’s Keeper. The film emphasizes the impact that caring adults and the exposure to new opportunities can have on a young person’s life.
Here’s what she said, “”The movie was thought provoking and energizing as we work to expose more young people to the hope and promise that entrepreneurship can play in their lives.””
She shared four short clips from the film with us, and we wanted to pass them along to you to serve as inspiration for what you do and they work that still needs to be done.
As you remember, in February 2014, President Obama launched MBK to address persistent opportunity gaps and tear down barriers that too often prevent boys and young men of color, and other young people from realizing their potential.
SBA has taken careful notes and in support of the My Brother’s Keeper initiative, they have been focusing on raising awareness and promoting entrepreneurship for Millennials.
You can follow one of those initiatives on Twitter. The SBA (@sbagov) has partnered with the Kauffman Founders School (@KauffmanFS) to host monthly Twitter chats focused around questions Millennials have about launching a business. Follow those to organizations and #MillennialTreps to join the conversation.
In May during National Small Business Week, the SBA hosted a Millennial Entrepreneurs panel with their “Millennial Entrepreneur Champion” Mike Muse in NYC. Watch a clip of that panel here. The SBA’s “Millennial Entrepreneur Champion” is someone who embodies the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship that we are trying to inspire in young people. Watch their efforts over the next several months to see how they further this message of economic empowerment and entrepreneurship.
