Google Webmaster Central

We are half way through the Google Tools for small business owners with websites. We’ve already covered Gmail and Google Analytics. Now I want to focus on Google Webmaster Central.

Google Webmaster Central is a clearinghouse of website tools that allow you to get more in depth data about how Google is doing crawling your website. When Google “”crawls”” your website, this means that it is surfing your web pages, finding links, and adding all of your website’s content to the Google index. Here’s a nice minute video overview of how it works:

What’s nice about Google Webmaster Tools is that it provides users with step-by-step instructions on how to repair and fix up your website so that Google can correctly index your content. This also includes watching your website for general errors and malware. The other great thing about Webmaster Central is that it will show you your top content pages and what search terms people on the internet are using to find your site. This empowering information gives you the ability to capitalize on your best keywords to garner even more traffic.
