Iowa’s Small Business Person of the Year

By Lea Hensel, Business and Community Services

Every year, the U.S. Small Business Administration honors small businesses throughout the country and 2018 is no different because on April 29 – May 5, 2018, National Small Business Week will be taking place. With the annual traditions of the weeklong celebration also comes honoring 52 small business owners and here at IASourceLink we are always excited to see who the Small Business Person of the Year will be in Iowa.

So without further ado, help us congratulate Bob Simpson, President of Big River Packaging in Clinton, IA!

The packaging company produces bakery boxes used for cupcakes, macarons, and other treats. Opening in 2005, it now employs 39 people, according to the Clinton Herald article regarding the news. Simpson told the Herald, “”It is an honor to accept this recognition on behalf of the people I work with in Clinton, Iowa,” Simpson said. “We are a successful small business because of the way we relate to one another, coach each other, and look out for one another. The importance we place on personal relationships spills over into how we serve our customers. I am humbled to be named Iowa’s SBA Small Business Person of the Year but I am filled with pride to shine a light on the people of Big River Packaging.””

All 52 Small Business Person of the Year winners are invited to Washington D.C. for National Small Business Week to be honored with their award and be there for the naming of the 2018 National Small Business Person of the Year.
