Lawn Care & Landscaping Sales Tax Tips from IDR
Iowa sales tax applies to a number of services. Lawn care and landscaping are two of those taxable services. Businesses performing such services need to be aware of their requirement to charge the appropriate sales tax to their customers.
Taxable lawn care services include:
- mowing
- trimming
- watering
- fertilizing
- seeding
- sodding
Taxable landscaping services include:
- excavating
- planting
- pruning
- placing sand, rock, & wood chips
Landscapers sometimes also act as construction contractors. The way services and materials are taxed depends upon the type of work being performed and how the customer is billed.
