The Ames Laboratory, USDOE

The Laboratory seeks solutions to energy-related problems. As part of our mission, we may provide unique capabilities and expertise to non-DOE entities, including industry under fully executed research agreements.

About

The Ames Laboratory is known for its basic and applied research in energy related materials.  WE excel in four broad areas of basic research, which support each other and underpin our more applied projects.  These are the cornerstones of research and development at the Ames Laboratory: • Materials synthesis and design through the Center for Rational and Innovative Synthesis and Processing.  This includes the Materials Preparation Center which supplies materials for internal use and externally to research institutions worldwide; • Materials characterization through the Chemical and Advanced Materials Characterization Center; • Chemistry & surface science through the Surface- and Chemical-sciences Center for Energy Sciences; • Theory, computation and experiments through the Integrated Center for Computational Chemistry, Materials and Physics – Unifying Theory and Experiment. We welcome colloboration with industry.  Collaborations between industry and the Ames Laboratory can help both parties meet common technical objectives while reducing development risks and leveraging resources.  As a federally funded facility, the Ames Laboratory has scientific and technical capabilities in areas that support key national missions.  These capabilities are also critical to the continued growth of U.S. industries and services. Ames Laboratory can and does enter into industry funded research agreements, non-disclosure and material transfer agreements, personnel exchanges, and beta-testing agreements with various entities. We are also happy to partner with small businesses to respond to SBIR and STTR call for proposals, large businesses, universities and other National Laboratories on other types of proposal calls, and with industry on 100% funds-in-projects.  For information regarding our partnering mechanisms, see our contract research page. In addiiton we have a portfolio of technologies available for licensing through Iowa State University, our Contractor operator.  Through our technology transfer mechanisms, we can provide additional support to the licensee to help further the technology, or to possibly find new applications for a licensed technology.
