Des Moines Lyceum: Do We Have Culture?

Gravitate 500 Locus St., Des Moines, IA, United States

We use the word “Culture” in all kinds of ways. We talk about pop culture, workplace culture, political culture, culture war, and so much more. But what about the stories, artworks, songs, food, and more that make up our daily life? Do we feel like we have a rich local culture and identity? Why or why not? What is it like, and what defines it? This will be an opportunity to hear from local cultural producers and for the community to talk among itself about what our own local culture really is.

Iowa Ag Trade Mission to the Philippines & Vietnam

The International Trade office will lead this trade mission that will focus on the Iowa livestock, grain, meat processors industries, and affiliated Iowa livestock and agriculture associations.

Vietnam and the Philippines are burgeoning markets with an appetite for US agricultural goods and services. The two countries have a combined population of nearly 200 million people, providing a large market potential for all Iowa agricultural interests, with continued export growth.

Vietnam has one of the faster growing middle classes, and the Philippines has a relatively high-income for the region. Agricultural exports across both grain and protein commodities have both countries as emerging opportunities to target, especially given global unrest in the commodity markets.

The IEDA team will develop a dynamic itinerary alongside industry partners, with meetings coordinated with government entities, commodity importers, and agricultural interest groups to engage in trade discussions. For more information, contact [email protected] or 515.348.6241.

Trade Mission to Chile & Peru

The targeted Latin American countries of Chile and Peru are rapidly growing economies. Both countries have free trade agreement partnerships with the U.S., which provides opportunities for reduced barriers and increased profitability. In addition to creating more open markets, the free trade agreements have strengthened protection for intellectual property, regulatory transparency, and requires effective labor and environmental enforcement.

This is a multi-industry trade mission and is open for any Iowa manufacturing and commercial companies. An IEDA Trade Mission is an in-country, travel opportunity for companies to receive market research, matchmaking with potential customers or partners, and travel with our IEDA trade mission group to have a week of in-country, one on one meetings. While we travel as a group, business appointments and itineraries are customized for each individual company to help them achieve their business goals for the trip.
