- Who Applies
- On-premises licensed retailers wishing to sell or dispense alcoholic beverages on a patio, deck or other outdoor area. Off-premises licensed retailers may also obtain an outdoor service area for a special event such as a tent sale.
- When To Apply
- Before selling and serving alcoholic beverages in the outdoor area.
- Initial Requirements
- Applicant must 1) Attain a letter of approval from a local authority such as the city council or county board of supervisors, and; 2) Gain endorsement from an insurance company certifying that the dram shop insurance covers the outdoor service area.
The outdoor service area privilege is not a stand-alone license. All laws and rules governing the regular license also apply to the outdoor area.

- The Outdoor Service Area Privilege expires with the regular alcoholic beverage license.
