We are committed to preserving a historically and financially thriving Main Street through business development and community engagement. We achieve this mission through the execution of the National Main Street’s 4-point approach. Promotion of our businesses and the unique products and services they offer, as well as promoting the overall unique character of our downtown district. Our promotions committee focuses on bringing money to Lansing through improved sales and commerce. Our promotions committee organizes monthly retail promotions and community events with the view of bringing people to Lansing to spend money and have a good time. Our biggest promotions include “Taste of Lansing”, Seasonal open houses and “Main Street Madness” – an annual punch-card promotion which runs during the four weeks before the Christmas Holiday. Development of our business opportunities. Our Economic Vitality team is all about retention and expansion of our existing businesses through free and low-cost assistance to ensure our businesses stay in business. We also focus on the recruitment of new businesses to the area; broadening Lansing’s commercial offering, increasing the money supply and increasing our tax revenue. Economic Vitality, with the assistance of the county Economic Development office, offers free SWOT analysis for businesses. This analysis helps businesses understand their market, their strengths, weaknesses and their opportunities. Economic Vitality also facilitates market analysis of our tourism market and offers workshops to train business owners on a variety of topics. Design and managing the aesthetics of our downtown district. Working with private building owners to help improve their buildings our Design committee focuses on leveraging grant opportunities and technical assistance to increase the appeal of downtown, providing space for new businesses as well as 2nd and 3rd floor housing for new residents. Our Design committee are also responsible for making the small improvements. Planting flowers on Main Street, Cleaning up the Streets and removing graffiti are all part and parcel of the Design committee. Our Organization committee is all about working to sustain the future. Working with our school to encourage the Entrepreneurs, Business Owners, Board Members, Committee Chairpersons and Volunteers of the future, to ensure that Lansing remains sustainable and that our hard work is never lost. The Organization committee also focuses on engaging the community in what Main Street Lansing is doing, encouraging volunteerism and a proactive approach to community development.
