Southern Iowa Council of Governments (SICOG)

Providing local financial assistance to business to create and retain jobs.

About

Formerly incorporated in 1973, the Southern Iowa Council of Governments is a regional association of local governments united to promote intergovernmental cooperation and strengthen local units of government. SICOG serves Adair, Adams, Clarke, Decatur, Madison, Ringgold, Taylor, and Union counties. SICOG’s membership includes eight counties, 49 communities, and three associate members.  The mission of the Southern Iowa Council of Governments is to provide and coordinate community and economic development primarily through the delivery of planning services, technical program assistance, grant writing, and grant administration to assist local governments and others in their efforts to improve the social and economic well-being of the region. SICOG is one of the regional councils of governments (planning commissions) in Iowa. The councils were established to address the need for local cooperation in finding equitable solutions to common problems. By working collectively to meet the challenges of the future, cities and counties share professional assistance and resources otherwise not affordable.
