Iowa Plumbing and Mechanical Systems Board

The Iowa Plumbing and Mechanical Systems Board was established to license those working in the plumbing, hydronic, HVAC and refrigeration disciplines.

About

The Iowa Plumbing and Mechanical Systems Board issues trade licenses, specialty licenses, and medical gas piping installation certification. Contractor licenses are also available. Anyone working at the apprentice, journey, or master level in the plumbing, mechanical, HVAC-refrigeration, sheet metal, or hydronic disciplines in the state of Iowa is required to be licensed with the board. Board members serve three-year terms except for the terms of the initial members, which were staggered so that three members’ terms expire each calendar year. No board member shall serve more than three full terms. The board organizes annually and elects a chairperson, vice chairperson, and a secretary from its membership.
