For black business owners, starting and running a successful small business comes with an additional set of challenges as many businesses owned by people of color are economically disadvantaged. According to Forbes, in 2016, only 0.2% of all venture capital funding was provided to startups founded by black women. Many African Americans are forced to fund their own businesses or rely on friends and family for assistance. 

Today, communities are increasingly becoming more aware of the need to drive support to black-owned businesses. So, how can you show your support? Simply put, spend your money. To make it even easier for you, we've highlighted 5 local, black-owned businesses in the Des Moines area.
