Posted by IASourceLink Admin on Jun 07, 2018

By Lea Hensel, Communications and Marketing Coordinator, UNI Business & Community Services

When it comes to needing business resources, the first thought to your mind is probably not, “I should call UNI, ISU, or Iowa!” But, what if I told you that these three state universities may very likely be one of your best options? There are programs at each  university ready to help you start and grow your business. That those programs are staffed by experts who have been providing business assistance for years and years. That many programs actually receive state or federal funding in order to provide services at little or no cost directly to you.

This summer, IASourceLink is running a three-part series focused on  how the three state universities in Iowa - Iowa State University, University of Iowa, and University of Northern Iowa - can help you to start, grow, and navigate transition at every stage in your business.

We’re kicking it off with the smallest of the three schools, the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, IA. Don’t let the size fool you though. UNI is home to Business and Community Services, a department  that encompasses 13 individuals programs that provide services and resources like entrepreneurial support, economic development, market research, strategic planning, environmental assistance, and even additive manufacturing and industry (what industry?) training for spray painters.

Here is a sampling of the types of services and/or resources you can take advantage of from UNI’s Business and Community Services programs.

  • Business Start-Up Questions

  • Strategic Business Planning

  • Succession Planning

  • Market Research

  • Succession Planning

  • Entrepreneurial Pitch Competitions

  • Economic Development

  • Environmental Technical Assistance

  • Regulatory Compliance

  • Advanced Manufacturing

  • Industry Training

Whether you’re B2B or B2C or both, BCS is ready to help you get started, grow your business, or even set up the strategic succession plan to so you can move onto your next venture. Don’t spin your wheels trying to figure it all out on your own. Take advantage of the low-to-no-cost resources  available to you at the University of Northern Iowa’s Business and Community Services. . In July and August, we’ll hear from Iowa State University and the University of Iowa but in the meantime, head over to to learn more about how you can put the power of UNI’s BCS to work for you and your business needs.
