Audubon County Puck Custom Enterprises, Inc., Wins Iowa Farm Bureau ‘Renew Rural Iowa Entrepreneur Award’

WEST DES MOINES, IOWA – June 27, 2013 – Puck Custom Enterprises, long heralded as an innovative, forward-looking agri-business, can celebrate a new accomplishment; the Manning-based organization has been named the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation (IFBF) Renew Rural Iowa Entrepreneur Award winner for June.

Puck Custom Enterprises, founded in the late 1970s by Ben Puck, performs an essential function of agriculture: manure handling and application.  As farms have improved production over recent decades, Puck Custom Enterprises has been highly sought after, facilitating operational growth and job creation.  “By providing frontline jobs for a family, Puck Custom Enterprises is bringing more workers and families to our town and that provides a real economic boost.  Puck’s growth has had a major impact in our small community,” said Manning Mayor Harvey Dales.

Located right on the Audubon and Carroll county line, Puck Custom Enterprises employs 30 individuals and the average worker is just 30 years old, a rarity for the industry with a traditionally older workforce.  Today, Puck Custom Enterprises remains a family operation.  Ben’s wife Kathy, sons Jeremy and Dan, and daughters Nancy and Mary, each play a significant role in the operation.

The rural-Iowa setting of Manning has provided the perfect home for Puck Custom Enterprises, and the community relishes their economic contributions and commitment to conservation.  Joel Hoegh, incoming Audubon County Farm Bureau president, said, “Puck Custom Enterprises has worked with the DNR to keep streams, creeks, and rivers clean.  We are very happy to have them in Manning.  We couldn’t think of anyone better than these guys to have in the community.”

Ben Puck is equally happy that Manning serves as the home for the family business and is excited for what the future holds.  “As our company continues to grow, we have become solution providers for agriculture and an innovator which showcases that our home-grown and world-class employees can come back to Iowa and build a career,” said Puck.
