Join us for this exciting webinar as serial entrepreneur Lydia Brown will share inspiring life stories on how she started and grew her business, explain why women should become business owners, and provide an overview of how Ascent is aiding in the development, advancement and support of women-owned businesses in the State of Iowa.
Lydia Brown started her own firm ten years ago as a way to gain more control of her schedule and become more independent. Juggling three young kids and a hectic workload of developing a new company from scratch was no small task. Over the course of the next several years, Lydia grew Skywalk Group
into the formidable player it now is in the human resources industry. Skywalk currently employees almost two dozen people and has a client list that includes Fortune 500 firms.
It wasn’t until the Spring of 2012 that Lydia realized how unique her successful small business is in Iowa. After attending the IWLC (formerly known as the Iowa Women’s Leadership Conference) and hearing Iowa’s “last in the nation” ranking for women-owned business, Lydia left the conference with an agenda---to find out why and how she could help.
Lydia started by connecting with economic development groups, community leaders and business and academia professionals throughout the state. Out of these conversations came encouragement for her to lead an organization to help Iowa's women business owners overcome the obstacles of growth while being an underrepresented population. In late 2012, Lydia announced the launch of Ascent
, a not-for-profit organization with the mission to inspire and support women in business ownership, by helping them grow in a meaningful way, to create jobs, drive economies and strengthen communities.
